March 10-11, 2007, St. James, MN

Sportech racing wrapped up the ’06-’07 snocross season with the final race of the MN State Championship Series at St. James.  The final scheduled race of the season, which was originally set for March 24-25 at Park-X, was cancelled because of unseasonably warm weather.

Conditions at St. James were less-than-ideal, with temperatures in the low 50s both Saturday and Sunday.  The pits were ankle-deep in mud, and the track was deteriorating at a rapid pace all weekend.   But, despite the challenging conditions, the WPSA crew was able to pull off a complete two-day race, and the track actually provided for some very competitive racing.

Andrew Carlson had a solid weekend in his Junior and Sport classes, qualifying for all four of his finals.  The #151 Arctic Cat ran flawlessly all weekend, and the clutching adjustments made by the team definitely helped Andrew’s holeshots throughout the weekend.  Andrew ended up making the podium in the Junior 16-17 class final with a strong 5th place finish against some incredibly tough competition.

Weekend Summary:

Class

Round 1   Round 2 Round 3 Final
  Junior 14-15 3 4 4 12 (Crash)
  Junior 16-17 4 3 5 5 (Podium)
  Sport Stock 4 4 2 8
  Sport Open 3 4 3 7

Andrew ended up placing in the top 10 in points in all of his classes for the season, despite missing the first points race of the season.  His off-season training has already started and his sights are set on the ’07-’08 season.  He’ll be running the Junior and Sport classes again next season, and he’s looking forward to coming into the season stronger, a bit wiser and fully prepared to compete.

Taylor Carlson has had remarkable healing with her knee which was injured at the Brainerd race in January.  She has completed physical therapy and is back in the gym training.  She will compete in the Women’s Stock class again next year, and her goal is to eventually make the jump to the Women’s Pro class in two years.  Taylor will be working-out and riding her dirt bike this summer, and her goal is to re-gain the Women’s stock points title next season.  Taylor turns 16 next week and she has plans to get her driver’s license on her birthday.  Her mother and father have been spending a great deal of time explaining that a car is not to be driven on the highways like a sled is driven on the race track.  A full roll-cage is being installed in her car, just in case this point was not effectively communicated.  Please keep Taylor, and Chris and Debbie, in your prayers!  And, if you are driving in the Elk River area and you see a chick in a little red Blazer on your tail, just take the ditch and let her pass.

Chris Carlson wrapped up the season with a less-than-spectacular weekend at St. James.  In the Plus 30, or “kids” class as Chris calls it, he qualified well through the heats but was taken out of the final when a competitor smashed into the rear of his sled.  The other sled hit Chris so hard that both he and his sled were thrown completely off the track.  Mumbling and murmuring to himself as he brushed the slush off his face and waddled away from the track, Carlson was last heard saying something about “punk kids” and the fact that he had a couple pairs of socks in his drawer which were older than some of these guys.

In the Plus 40 class Carlson was again the top qualifier through the heats.  In the final he got caught up in a holeshot pile-up and had to work his way through the crowd.  He ended up finishing third.  He finished the season third in points in the Plus 40 class, despite only competing in six of the eight races.

What’s up for next year?

Team Sportech has already started making preparations for the ’07-’08 season.  Here’s a quick look at some of the exciting changes coming for next season:

    • We are in the process of finalizing plans to construct a snocross practice facility here at Sportech.  We will have state-of-the-art snowmaking capabilities, along with grooming equipment to maintain the track.  We have learned (the hard way) that it is absolutely critical that our riders have access to a practice track on a regular basis.  This is especially critical early in the season when sled set-ups are undefined and riders are far from “race ready.”  We are convinced that adding this practice facility will have a huge impact on our riders.
    • We have hired Bob “Hoss” Riege as our new team mechanic.  Hoss will work full-time with the race team from November 1st through April 1st, and will spend the off-season working here at Sportech in our New Product Development Department.  Hoss comes to Team Sportech with over 20 years of mechanical experience in the snowmobile industry and many years of experience working specifically on race sleds.  Hoss has worked part-time for the team the past two seasons, and we are excited to bring him on-board full-time; he will prove to be a valuable asset for the team.  In addition to Hoss, we are also looking for a part-time technical expert to work on specific suspension and clutching set-ups.  We have identified several candidates and are in the process of scheduling interviews.
    • Team Sportech moved into our new 5,000 square foot race facility late last fall, and over the summer we plan to put the finishing touches on this space to create a “world class” race shop environment.  Our practice track will be literally right out the back door of the race shop.  It’s a nearly perfect set-up which we all feel very fortunate to have.

We’d like to thank our sponsors for all their help over the past year.  We’ll be in contact with each of you in the coming weeks as we continue to prepare for next year.  As always, we love to hear from you, so if you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Thanks again for your continued support.

HOT SNOCROSS ACTION AT ST. JAMES

February 10-11, 2007, St. James, MN

Team Sportech Racing traveled to the “snowbelt” in Southern Minnesota in St. James to compete in round seven of the WPSA MN State Snocross Championship Series.

Mechanical challenges hampered Andrew Carlson’s holeshots all weekend long, and on short tracks like the track in St. James, the holeshot is virtually the whole race.  It was nearly impossible to pass on this track, and as a result, Andrew struggled through qualifying with mid-pack finishes.  He tried to make up for his poor starts by riding a bit “over his head,” and consequently had a couple mild dismounts in the process.  With the competition at this level, crashing severely limits your chances of making the final.

Overall, it was another good weekend for the #151 as he continues to adapt to the level of competition in his new classes.  Andrew’s attitude is remarkable, and he approaches each race with consistent determination.  At 14, he’s the youngest competitor on the track in all of his classes, and many of the riders that he is competing against each weekend are some of the top Junior and Sport riders in the country.  The competition is incredibly stiff, and Andrew is committed to getting faster each week and improving his finishes.

The Sportech crew has been working diligently on the #151 race sled since the St. James race and the mechanical issues have been corrected.  Andrew and his #151 race sleds are “race ready” for the next event.  Here’s a recap of how the weekend ended up for Andrew:

Class Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 Final
Sport Stock 5th 4th 2nd NQ
Sport Open 6th (crash) 4th 8th (crash) NQ
Junior 14-15 4th 5th 4th 5th
Junior 16-17 3rd 4th 2nd 8th

Chris Carlson competed in the Plus 30 and Plus 40 classes, and the racing in both classes was some of the very best competition of the season.  With the tight track and limited passing, there was a considerable amount of “paint swapping” going on in the Plus classes, something that is typically only seen in the young guy classes where the riders don’t have to report to work on Monday morning.  This certainly added a new dimension to the “old guy” classes.

Here’s a summary of how the weekend ended up for the #348:

Class Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 Final
Plus 30 1st 6th 1st 5th (holeshot pile-up)
Plus 40 2nd 1st 2nd 2nd

The team travels to Shakopee, MN on March 3rd where Andrew will compete in the WPSA National event at the famed Canterbury Downs race track.

OLD MAN WINTER FLEXES HIS MUSCLES IN ST. JAMES!

February 2-3, St. James, MN

With temperatures failing to climb above zero all weekend long, Team Sportech added “staying warm” to it’s list of team challenges for the sixth round of the WPSA MN State Snocross Championship.

Andrew was the sole racer this weekend, as Taylor continued to sit out from her knee injury and Chris chose to take the weekend off to recover from a week-long battle with “The Crud.”

Andrew had another respectable weekend in the junior and sport classes.  He was consistent on the track all weekend long, placing in the top four in nearly all of his 12 qualifying heats.  He qualified for all four of his finals for the second consecutive week, which accomplished a season-long goal that Andrew had set for himself.

In the Junior 14-15 class Andrew had a great run.  He pulled a good holeshot and battled up front for the whole race.  He ended up finishing in fourth place and was definitely “on pace” with the leaders.  Andrew has been working hard on his starts or “holeshots” over the past few weeks, and he is begging to see some promising results.

Other class results:

Junior 16-17:             Qualifying: 7th, 5th, 7th.           Final:  7th
Sport Stock:               Qualifying: 2nd, 4th, 3rd.          Final:  6th
Sport Open:               Qualifying:  4th, 3rd, 1st           Final:  8th

The team returns to St. James again this weekend for round seven of the WPSA State Series.

SPORTECH ELK RIVER SNOCROSS A BIG HIT!

January 27-28, 2007, Elk River, MN

Team Sportech had the rare opportunity to sleep in their own beds as the WPSA Snocross Tour came to their home town of Elk River, MN for the Sportech Elk River Snocross.  This was the second year for this event, and despite frigid temperatures, record crowds again filled the Sherburne County Fairgrounds.

Andrew Carlson continued battle in his Junior and Sport classes.  His qualifying rounds went well, with consistent second, third and fourth place finishes in all classes.  For the first time this year, he qualified for all four of his finals, which is no easy feat considering just over a month ago he was riding a fan cooled sled in the 10-13 year old class!

Andrew ended up with a nice fourth place finish in the Junior 16-17 class, and a respectable fifth place in the Sport Open class final.  Despite missing the first points race of the season because of age ineligibility, Andrew is still climbing up in the points standings each week, with top ten spots in all four of his classes.

Chris Carlson had a good weekend in Elk River on his Arctic Cat in the Plus 30 and Plus 40 classes.  In the Plus 40, Chris went undefeated through qualifying on Saturday to go into the final on Sunday as the top qualifier.  He led the final from start to finish for a nice win in front of his home town crowd.

In the Plus 30 class Chris again qualified well.  He led the final until the last corner of the last lap when another competitor slipped by in lap traffic.  Chris settled for second but was pleased with the overall results of the weekend.

Taylor Carlson is showing great progress with her rehabilitation for her injured knee.  Her knee is healing well and she appears to be well ahead of schedule in her recovery.  The great news is the pain is better and her knee is healing; the bad news is she is beginning to “get the itch” to race and has already started looking into innovative ways to stabilize her knee!

Team Sportech travels to St. James on February 3-4th for the sixth round of the WPSA MN State Snocross Series.

BIG UPS, BIG DOWNS AND BIG AIR AT PARK-X

click here to see photos from this event

January 20-21, 2006, Hill City, MN

Sportech racing traveled to Park-X to compete in round four of the MN State Championship Snocross series last weekend.  The crew at Park-X had the track in beautiful shape, and the racing action was hot and heavy all weekend long.

Taylor Carlson (#251) update:  Doctors have told Taylor that she is most likely out for season because of the knee injury she suffered two weeks ago at Brainerd.  She has a torn PCL and a hairline fracture in her tibia.  She began physical therapy this week and has already started to re-gain some movement.  She is feeling stronger by the day and is anxious to get off her crutches.  His goal is to make it back for the last couple races of the season; her mother’s goal is somewhat different, however.

Andrew Carlson (#151) continues to ride well in the hotly contested junior and sport classes.  Going into this season, we all knew that this was going to be a big jump for Andrew, and that it was going to take some time to adjust.  And, the past two races have truly been character-building, “adjustment” weekends for Andrew.  Perhaps the biggest adjustment for Andrew has been learning how to safely ride through traffic on the track.  It requires strategy, patience and the ability to read the lines on the track and anticipate the perfect time to make a pass.  I think there was an old Chinese snocross philosopher that once said, “Fastest man on track not always the man with fastest sled.  Sometime rider need to use his head—and his throttle.”

When Andrew managed to stay on his sled, he rode very well and placed in the top three in his heat races.  Unfortunately, he was off the sled about as much as he was on it on Saturday!  One positive note from this is he did an excellent job of testing durability on his Arctiva riding gear and his Z1R helmet.  Despite sliding all over the track at Park-X, everything held up beautifully!

Andrew qualified for the Junior 14-15 and Sport Open finals.  He rode well in the Junior final and ended up with a very respectable fourth place finish.  In the Open final he started in the back row and was able to work his way up to mid pack through heavy traffic and clouds of snow dust.

Chris Carlson qualified number one by going undefeated through the qualifying rounds in the Plus 40 class.  In the final he battled back and forth with the leader but ended up settling for second. The final was a five lap event on the long and very rough Park-X track.  As Chris limped back to the trailer after the race, gasping for air, he was heard making a comment about “getting back in the gym.”

This weekend is the big Sportech Elk River Snocross event held here in beautiful Elk River, MN. The team has been very busy this week preparing the sleds and trailer as well as preparing the race track and making countless arrangements to pull this event off.  We are anticipating a great weekend and look forward to seeing many of you there.

Thanks again for your continued support.

ANDREW CARLSON COMPETES IN HIS FIRST NATIONAL EVENT
AT THE JUNIOR 14-15 AND 16-17 LEVEL

January 13, 2007, Brainerd, MN

Round two of the WPSA National Snocross Tour was held at the prestigious Brainerd International Raceway last weekend, and racers were treated to a great track, frigid temperatures and some hot snocross racing action.

Andrew Carlson was the sole competitor on his #151 Arctic Cat stocker this weekend.  Taylor Carlson is recovering from an injury suffered at the same track the prior weekend, and because there is no Plus 40 class at the national level, Chris Carlson was demoted from driver to assistant mechanic, head goggle cleaner and the guy that pays for the broken parts.

Round one of qualifying went very well for the #151 as he pulled strong holeshots and ran in the front of the pack in both of his junior classes.  He ended up with a second and a third against some very strong competition in round one.

The second round of qualifying presented some challenges for young Andrew.  In the Junior 14-15 heat he got tangled up in a holeshot  pile-up and had to settle for a sixth place finish.  In his second Junior 16-17 heat he ran very strong for three laps, swapping between second and third place, when another rider got into him in a corner and sent off the sled and to the back of the pack.  The poor second round finishes placed the #151 in the back row of the final.

In the 14-15 final Andrew came from dead last in the back row and worked his way up to fourth place, a feat which is not easily accomplished with limited laps and on a track which makes passing quite difficult.  As he was moving in on the third place driver he had a mishap in the corner which threw him off the sled.  By the time he got re-mounted and back on the track, he had lost several places.  He ended up in a very frustrating seventh place.

His luck was a bit better in the Junior 16-17 class.  Again, he started from the back row and was forced to work his way through heavy snow-dust toward the front of the pack.  Andrew identified some fast lines on the track and with some nifty passing techniques he was able to work himself up to a podium finish and a fifth place trophy.

The great news is that Andrew has proven that he can ride with the best in his classes—he just needs to find a way to ride smart and stay out of the pile-ups.  Andrew’s goal for the season is to get faster each week as he gains confidence on his new sleds.  He certainly appears to be progressing in the right direction.

Team Sportech will be heading to Park-X this weekend for round three of the MN State Series.

Thanks again for your continued support.

TEAM SPORTECH ENCOUNTERS THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY AT PARK-X AND BRAINERD

December 30-31, 2006, Hill City, MN

Round two of the WPSA MN State Championship Snocross Series was held at Park-X in Hill City.  With a newly enlarged track and big crowds and the New Year on everyone’s mind, anticipation of a great weekend was in the air.

Saturday was a near perfect day of racing.  Temperatures were mild, the track was in awesome condition and a record number of races were run during the day.  Soon after the races ended Saturday evening, it started to rain…and it didn’t quit all night long!  The track was destroyed and Sunday’s races had to be cancelled and it was announced that they would be made up the following weekend in Brainerd.

Taylor Carlson had a good day on Saturday placing second in all her heat races in the highly competitive women’s stock class.  This class continues to grow each week, and the new competitors showing up are definitely serious and prepared to compete.  Taylor ended the weekend as the #4 qualifier and was feeling good about her chances in the final at Brainerd.  Taylor also ran consistently in the Novice 600 class with three respectable mid-pack finishes, much to the dismay of her male competitors.  For many of these young bucks, there’s nothing worse than a 15-year-old girl with a pony tail passing them in mid-air!

Andrew Carlson made his debut in the Junior 14-15, Junior 16-17, Sport Stock and Sport Open classes.  He has been incredibly excited to get off his old fan-cooled sled and on his hot new 440 liquid cooled and 600 open mod sleds.  As a team, we were careful to set realistic goals for Andrew his new classes.  This was to be a transition year for learning, gradual improvement and incremental progress.  Andrew quickly let it be known to the team that he had his own set of goals for the season, and the words gradual and incremental were replaced with rapid and instantaneous!

Andrew came out like a ball of fire in his heat races on Saturday morning with top three finishes in all his classes.  He ran consistently all day, and actually ended the day with four consecutive heat wins.  Going into the final round at Brainerd Andrew had qualified for three of four finals and was the number one qualifier in the super competitive Sport Stock class, a class which commonly has over 50 sleds entered.  Needless to say, both Andrew and the rest of Team Sportech were thrilled with his performance.

And to wrap up a nearly perfect day at Park-X for Team Sportech, team owner and resident old guy racer Chris Carlson piloted his #348 Arctic Cat to three first place heat runs in the Plus 40 Class to go into the finals at Brainerd as the number one qualifier.

January 6-7, 2006, Brainerd, MN

Team Sportech came into the Brainerd event encouraged, excited and filled with anticipation.   After all, the team just completed an awesome weekend of racing at Park-X and this was sure to continue…right?  Oh, how fast things can change!  Some incredibly tough luck hit the team right away Saturday morning, and it really didn’t improve much all weekend long.  Here’s a quick summary:

  • Taylor twisted her knee while landing on a jump and had to be taken to the hospital.  An MRI later revealed a torn Posterior Ligament in her knee, and she will be out of action for several weeks.  Taylor was excited to defend her Women’s Stock Class points championship this year, so she is obviously disappointed.  At the same time, she is committed to a rapid recovery and will face this challenge just as she does her competitors on the track.
  • Andrew’s sled looked like a demo-derby car by noon on Saturday.  He was rear-ended, side-swiped and just plain taken out several times throughout the weekend.  He salvaged two podium finishes in the first set of finals, a third in the 14-15 class and a fourth in the 16-17.  In the Sport Stock final where he was the number one qualifier, he was taken out in the first corner and had to work his way through the pack to settle for a seventh.
  • Chris got tangled up in turn-one of the Plus 40 final as well and was forced to battle through traffic on the tight track in Brainerd.  He was able to manage a fourth place podium finish.
  • Sunday was more of the same for Andrew.  Early in the day he took a hard hit in turn-one after the holeshot and was literally pushed right off the track.  It seemed as if Andrew had a Bull’s Eye painted on the side of his sled all weekend!  The damage to his sled was significant and the crew was unable to get him back on the track in time for his next heat, so he missed the race, which essentially eliminates his chance to get in the final.  Through it all, Andrew stayed very positive and managed to ride very, very well when he didn’t have another sled impaled upon his.  He ended up qualifying for two finals, taking a fourth in the Junior 14-15 class and a fifth in the Junior16-17.
  • Chris ended up qualifying number two in Plus 40 and taking second in the final.  He claims that his greasy hands and bloody knuckles, brought on by working on Andrew’s busted-up sleds all day, caused him to have to settle for second.  The jury is still out on this one.

The team is feverishly working to put the sleds back in working order in preparation for the big Brainerd National Race this weekend.  Andrew will be the sole participant, competing at the national level in the Junior 14-15 and 16-17 classes.

Thanks again for your continued support.

TEAM SPORTECH PUTS THE HAMMER DOWN AT PARK-X

December 9-10, 2006, Hill City, MN

Despite Spring-like temperatures, the snocross racing action this past weekend at Park-X was fast and furious.  The pits were full of racers, the spectator areas were full of excited fans and the track was in awesome condition for the first points race of the season in the WPSA MN State Championship Series.

Taylor Carlson competed in the women’s stock class and it became obvious that the bar has been raised in this class for ’07. Several new competitors showed up at the track, and Taylor has definitely got her hands full in her attempt to defend her Women’s Stock points championship from ’06.

Taylor ran well through her qualifying rounds, with the exception of one minor crash which was the result of an over-aggressive pass attempt.  She got crossed-up when trying to pass another sled and she ended up with her face in the snow!  She got back up and finished the race, but ended up in last place.  Despite this poor finish, she still managed to qualify in the number three spot for a solid first row position in the final.  Taylor came out of the holeshot in second place and immediately set he sights on the leader.  She was able to catch her after a couple laps but just couldn’t sneak by her.  Her second place finish wrapped up a good weekend of riding for Taylor.

Andrew went 1-1-2 through his qualifying rounds on Saturday in the Junior 10-13 class, and entered the final Saturday evening as the top qualifier, something he has accomplished five times in five finals so far this season.  His holeshot was just “so-so,” leaving him in third place.  He quickly worked up to second and started gaining ground on the leader.  Unfortunately, he simply ran out of time and had to settle for a respectable second.

On Sunday, Andrew was perfect through his qualifying rounds, going 1-1-1.  His final was going to be special, as this was to be his last race on his fan-cooled sled in the Junior 10-13 class.  Andrew turns 14 on December 15th, so he’ll be jumping up to an Arctic Cat 440 Sno Pro liquid cooled sled, as well as a special build Arctic Cat 600 modified and will be competing in the Junior 14-15, Junior 16-17, Sport Stock and Sport Open classes on his new, high-horsepower Cats.  Needless to say, the game is about to change for Andrew!   So, after all the hype about his last race on a fan, and after the PA announcer made a big deal about this being Andrew’s last race on the fan, the sleds were lined up and the flagman approached the line, with riders eagerly anticipating the start.  So did Andrew blast off the line and go on to a huge, emotional victory?  Did he crash in a last minute pass attempt?  Nope.  Just seconds before the flag dropped, Andrew jumped the flag—and was promptly black flagged and sent to the rear of the pack!  A bit anti-climactic to be sure, but as they say, “that’s racing.”  He worked his way through the pack and had to settle for a sixth place finish.

Andrew’s new nick-name in the Sportech race trailer is “Humpy-Jumpy.”

Team Sportech will return to Park-X in Hill City, MN on December 30-31 for round two of the WPSA MN State Championship Series.

Thanks again for your continued support.

TEAM SPORTECH COMPETES AT THE DULUTH NATIONAL AND
THE MN STATE SERIES SEASON OPENER AT PARK-X

click here to see photos from this event

November 24-25, Duluth, MN

Team Sportech traveled to Duluth for the opening act in the WPSA National Snocross Tour.  Andrew Carlson competed in the Junior 10-13 class, and Taylor Carlson ran in the brand new Women’s Stock class.

Andrew came out swinging with two dominating heat wins.  He went into the final as the number one qualifier with 30 riders in the class.  His confidence level was high as he was riding well and his #151 Arctic Cat Sno Pro was running very strong.  As the green flag was dropped for the final, Andrew got pinched in by sleds on both sides and had to settle for third as they came out of the first turn.  He worked his way up to second place and then set his sights on the leader, who had a considerable lead built up.  With some “on the edge” driving, he was able to get within a sled length as the white flag signaled one more lap—and what a final lap it was.  Carlson made several attempts to pass but was shut down each time.  The race ended with a drag to the finish line and both sleds catching big air over the finish line table-top.  Andrew came up just inches short and had to settle for second place.

It was a great race, and a great start of the season for the #151.

Taylor competed in the Women’s Sport Stock Class, which is a new addition to the WPSA National program for this year.  And if the entry numbers at Duluth are any indication, it’s going to be a successful class—there were 25 women signed up to compete.

Taylor had a mild case of the “first race jitters” at Duluth, and her first two heat races were a struggle.  She drove off the track while leading in heat one, she got caught up in a multi-sled pile-up while running second in heat two and had a small “off” in her third heat. She finished the heat races with a 3-5-3 record and still managed to qualify for the last spot in the front row of the final.  In the final round she got caught up in some serious holeshot traffic and was dead last into the first corner.  She rode hard and worked her way through the pack to finish in a very respectable 7th position.  After the day was over, Taylor said, “I’m glad I got this back luck out of my system!  Now I’m ready to go to Park-X and get ‘er done!”

December 2-3, Hill City, MN

A cold blast of winter blessed the crew at Park-X last week as they were finally able to turn on the snow guns and build a beautiful early season snocross track.  They built the track in less than three days!    This was the first round of the MN State Regional Snocross Series.

Taylor Carlson had her game face on right from the beginning as she dominated her qualifying rounds.  She went into the final as the top women’s qualifier, and she made it a clean sweep for the weekend by taking the checkered flag.  There was no sign of the early season jitters that plagued her the week before at Duluth.  She rode very well all weekend and really set the tone for the Women’s Stock Class with a dominating win.  Taylor was the points champion in this class last year and her goal is to repeat again this year.

The Junior 10-13 class has a unique feature in that they run three qualifying rounds and a final on both Saturday and Sunday, so it’s essentially two separate races.  On Saturday Andrew Carlson ran uncontested through qualifying, and then walked away from his competitors in the final.  Sunday was essentially the same, although he did get his goggles dirty once as he settled for a second in one of his qualifying rounds.  He won the final and completed the sweep for the weekend in the Junior 10-13 class.  Andrew will race one more weekend in this class and then will jump up to compete in the Junior 14-15 class as well as the sport classes as he turns 14 on December 15th.  Needless to say, he’s excited to jump up to the bigger sled and mix it up with the big guys!

Chris Carlson competed in the Plus 40 class over the weekend and managed to sweep his three qualifying rounds.  He ended up finishing 2nd in the final, and did not require supplemental oxygen, bandages or any medical attention after the race, which is always a positive note when old guys race.

Overall, Sportech racing competed in 12 heats for the weekend, with 10 firsts and two seconds.  They ran in four final events and had three firsts and one second.

It was a great start to the season, and the team is anticipating great things from this weekend’s event at Park-X.

Thanks again for your continued support.
